A first step is to increase the number of people dedicated to building peace in their communities. Local Project Committees (LPC)  were established to be at the forefront of this transformation.

A Recap of the Conflict Transformation Training-of-Trainers May 21-25, 2012

When was the last time that you let someone lead you around a room with your eyes closed?  It may have been a while, but if you’re a peace practitioner, you’ve likely participated in a similar exercise meant to encourage trust-building and show the importance of good communication and leadership.
 
This is one of the exercises that the 24 participants gathered for the Conflict Transformation Training of Trainers (ToT) enjoyed most.
 

Local Project Committees

Community ownership is a key feature of Tomorrow is a New Day’s project design.

Thus, from the very beginning, structures are being created to ensure the sustainability of the project. In each of the seven communities, a Local Project Committee, or LPC, will be established.
 

Seven Target Communities

Each community has been targeted because they are “trend setting communities” that exert strong influence on conflict dynamics in neighbouring areas.

Amnesty, in this context, refers to the sweeping disarmament, demobilisation and reintegration activities in the Niger Delta.

Why is there a conflict in the Niger Delta?

There are many issues contributing to the instability in the Niger Delta. The common thread between them is oil. The people of the region have voiced many objections over the years but the primary complaint is that the oil pumped from their lands enriches the nation at a high cost for residents.
